Individuals who have had chickenpox at some time earlier in their life are prone to having shingles as it develops in those people only. It is important for them to protect themselves from shingles by taking the chickenpox vaccination. Children are administered the chicken pox vaccination at an early age in North America. They have very low chance of getting chicken pox and as a result shingles.

In case adults and children have taken just one dose it is suggested that a follow up vaccination for varicella should also be taken. For adults who have not been injected with chickenpox vaccination the risk for contacting or even transmitting shingle goes up and they should take more care.

One of the groups of adults which have more risk of exposure or transmission to shingles are the people who work as healthcare givers. They are more prone as they spend a lot of their time with people who are sick as well as with different kinds of ailments. They will positively gain a lot by taking the chickenpox vaccination.

There is another group of people who work or live in an institution who fall in the high risk category for getting chickenpox and shingles. They also need to take the shot for chickenpox. It may be important for the people staying in correctional institutions to take varicella vaccination also. They have to keep in touch with individuals with different kinds of health problems and have a lot of risk. Many types of vaccinations are taken by the people who travel internationally as they come in touch with all kinds of infections which also include chickenpox. As a matter of fact any person who comes close to a lot of people like teachers, daycare workers, military personal etc are advised to take the chicken pox vaccination.

One may not realize but women who are not expecting but are in the age to bear children should get themselves vaccinated against chickenpox. It is better if you keep the vaccinations up to date as there is a chance of developing shingles for people who have suffered from chickenpox.
