ViSalus Sciences Review - Scam Or Legit Opportunity?

By Brian McCoy | November 23, 2008

The ViSalus home business opportunity is making a name for itself in the network marketing industry. So is this company a scam or a legitimate home based business opportunity?

1) The Company

Blake Mallen, Nick Sarnicola, and Ryan Blair are the co-founders of the ViSalus Sciences company. Their vision for the company was to intertwine passion for people with health and a business opportunity. ViSalus is taken from the Latin derivatives “Vi,” meaning Life, and “Salus,” meaning Health and Prosperity. The company began in March 1997 and is based in Troy, Michigan. The company has branch offices in California also.

2) Product Line

The ViSalus product line contains supplements and vitamins in pill, capsule, and liquid form as well as weight loss and anti-aging products. The ViSalus Vi-PAK vitamin and mineral packs were the company’s first product. They come in an AM/PM divided packs and retail for $150 for a 30 day supply.

ViSalus brought to market a weight loss program called the Trim Slim Shape Program. They offer about every type of weight loss product including shakes, deter mints, a recipe booklet, personal journal, and a measuring tape to measure your success.

ViSalus NEURO products are formulated to give your body as well as your mind a lift.

3) Comp Plan

ViSalus is a network marketing home based business opportunity. People can join the company at either the “Associate” level for $39, or the “Executive Success System” for the price of $499. ViSalus has a unilevel pay plan. A unilevel plan requires that you have a certain number of “qualified” legs and meet specified sales volume levels. You also must stay on a monthly product “autoship” to ensure receiving your commissions. As is the case with all other network marketing programs, you can qualify for higher rank levels, pay scale, and bonuses.

4) Summary

In closing, ViSalus is not a scam. It is a legitimate multi-level marketing opportunity that provides its distributors with products as well as income potential. While it is a legitimate opportunity, it also has some potential set backs. The MLM industry is highly competitive. ViSalus does carry a useful product line. However, people in the industry have grown tired of selling pills, capsules, drinks, and powders. Why is this? It becomes extremely difficult to separate your company from all of the other herbal supplement MLM companies such as Herbalife, Pharmanex, Usana, and Noni. What makes one company unique from another? Typically it comes down to the expert testimony of one paid doctor versus another.

Likewise, if you want to make it in the MLM market you have to offer products that are unique. You need products that are highly consumable and also one of a kind. This ensures that you will be able to market your products to a wide variety of potential prospects and be able to earn an income.
