Treating Wrist Pain With Wrist Pillows
November 7, 2009 | Leave a Comment
When you are working, do you ever find that you are feeling an acute pain that goes from the center of your wrist to your fingers? At first, you might chalk it up to working at your computer for too long, but though this is definitely one of the causes, it is far from the only one! Mild wrist pain can become quite intense if you let it go for too long and the resulting doctor’s visit can tell you a lot of unpleasant things. There are many issues that might be troubling you, but before you get that bad, it is time for you to look into the simple solution of the wrist pillow.
The Wrist Pain
Unfortunately, your wrist pain can and will affect your quality of life especially where the use of your hands are concerned. You will not be able to type as quickly, manipulate the mouse as dexterously, write as smoothly and use your fingers as nimbly as you previously did before wrist pain became a part of your life.
Your doctor should be able to tell you about the causes of your wrist pain. Keep in mind that it is but a symptom of joint, muscle and bone problems that include tendonitis, arthritis, ganglion cysts, bone fractures, muscle sprains and carpal tunnel syndrome. Yes, these causes are indeed more troubling than a simple wrist pain, not to mention more expensive to treat than buying a wrist pillow.
While there is little that you can do to guard against arthritis and ganglion cysts since these are often beyond your control, physiologically-speaking, you do have something to say about the onset of tendonitis and carpal tunnel syndrome. As for bone fractures and muscle sprains, you just have to be careful in the performance of your daily activities especially where sports are concerned.
Getting Good Wrist Support
Why do we say you can do something to guard against carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis? Well, for one thing, you can significantly avoid the repetitive and stressful activities that contribute to both medical conditions. These include racquet sports, heavy shop work and weight lifting without proper training as well as working at the computer for hours at a time.
Another option that is open to you includes the use of the wrist brace. A wrist brace is not something that you should use all the time, but using it once in a while when you are having a bad day can be quite important for your comfort. Some people abuse wrist braces by using them too much, and this is an issue because muscular atrophy can develop. Take some time and consider how you would use a wrist brace.
A wrist pillow can be used as much as you like, however, and it can greatly support your wrists when you are typing at your computer. There are plenty of tutorials online that can help you make them yourself so see which ones you want to make!
Remember that wrist pain is something that you need to take seriously, and that you also need to remember that you can do something about it. Look into the supports that can help you and make sure that you are staying on top of things.
