The medical fraternity have never been able to find out what causes eczema although it has been established that a malfunction of the immune system could be a cause. Various harsh substances could also be factors which are causing types of eczema for instance constant sweating, clothing fibres, and heavily perfumed cosmetics. Extreme changes in temperature as well as external allergens and stress could account for the onset of eczema.
These types of eczema that most people tend to suffer from is atopic eczema. An outbreak causes the person severe discomfort in that their skin becomes raised and inflamed and they end up scratching due to itchiness and it is thought that maybe this is due to a breakdown of the immune system. This type occurs periodically on and off and will flare up should the person be in contact with allergen of some sort. There will always be a common factor and family history of allergies associated.
Another types of eczema whereby pain and burning is experienced along side with deep blisters is Dyshidrotic dermatitis which only occur on the hands and the palms of the hands as well as on the under parts of the feet and down the sides of the fingers and toes. This type falls under another name which is vesicular palmoplantar dermatitis and again doctors do not know what causes the onset.
This types of eczema is very common during the months of spring and summer and also common in tropical climates which may suggest that heat has something to do with the onset of this type of dermatitis.
Nummular eczema which only really found in much older men and is found on the back, torso, arms and legs is diagnosed by crusted coin shaped areas and the person will complain of excess irritation and itchiness.
This could be an associated allergy especially if there is a history of atopic dermatitis in the family and if there is then there is obviously an increased risk of contracting nummular dermatitis and this condition is termed as chronic. This type of eczema is still puzzling doctors.
There is no associated known cause for nummular dermatitis but it is said that abrasive substances could worsen the eczema such as soaps, washing detergents and topical creams and things like dry skin conditions, or places that have low humidity as well as acne type medications could be causing the onset of this type of eczema and maybe environmental factors.
