Gas Mileage Improvements: Can You Win 10 Million Dollars?
August 30, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Improve my gas mileage! That’s the statement that’s been going around since nearly the dawn of the industrial age. Nearly 100 years of just trying to figure out how get further on a gallon of gas.
Gas mileage devices have nearly doubled the gas mileage that cars can get over the last 75 years but progress has been painfully slow. Especially during that last couple of decades which have seen virtually no change.
Well, time to enter the Auto X Prize competition which is being sponsored the the Progressive auto insurance Co. The first 100 mpg car is the goal and the contest was officially launched in March and you can still get in.
The Auto X Prize will award a $10 million dollar prize to the first person…or group of persons…who can demonstrate that 100mpg achievement during cross-country races.
If you are up for the game, the competition is scheduled to being in 2009. So, if you think you can “improve my gas mileage” don’t just sit there, get to building!
The questions are, do you think you have what it takes? What exactly are the rules to win the cash and what is the goals that need to be accomplished?
First off, the goals are pretty obvious. We need cars that are going to be efficient as well as easy on our environment and we also need in a bad way to get off our oil addiction but most important? Improve my gas mileage, of course!
The car that will win needs to be an easy concept that is simple in design and straight forward to understand not to mention something that you and I can work on. That’s a switch!
It needs to be a car that will benefit the entire world and as such this will be global competition. Anyone anywhere can enter. No matter where you come from, your brains are welcome.
The winning car must also be a car that everyone can purchase. Concept cars or idea cars are not allowed. It’s got to be ready for production.
The other rules of engagement include independent and fair non-partisan contestants and must provide clear understanding of the emissions, safety, fuel efficiency, performance and a couple other technical boundaries.
Don’t let those things snag you. If you can build it and race it and it can go to manufacturing then all the shade tree mechanics need to get into this thing.
The implications of such a contest are huge! Not only for the winners of the contest but for the entire world in general.
Imagine for a moment how life could change for all of us and how the far reaching effects into other industries would change life as we know it.
There is much more info online concerning the cars with best gas mileage if you know where to look so let your finger do the walking and maybe you too will see gas mileage improvement beyond your wildest imagination!
